This fully handmade Yixing Zisha teapot embodies the elegance of literati tea tradition and the craftsmanship of authentic Chinese ceramics. Featuring the classic “Xi Shi” shape and a distinct inverted handle, its design draws inspiration from the refined proportions and functionality admired in the Mengchen-style — a historic school of teapot aesthetics rooted in the Ming dynasty, associated with master potter Hui Mengchen.

A Teapot with a Story:

The Xi Shi teapot has a poetic origin. It was once known as the Wendan pot, and more evocatively as “Xi Shi’s Breast”, due to its round, full form reminiscent of the curves of Xi Shi — one of the Four Beauties of ancient China. The lid knob echoed a soft peak, the spout was short and subtly thick, and the handle curved like an inverted ear.

Though admired for its symbolism, the original name was gradually replaced with the more elegant “Xi Shi teapot”, or “Inverted Handle Xi Shi”, preserving its cultural heritage while aligning with contemporary sensibilities.

Features:

Material: Premium Yixing Zhuni clay (Zhao Zhuang origin) — high iron content, fine grain, excellent porosity

Craftsmanship: 100% hand-built using traditional slab and paddle techniques; no molds or machinery

Volume: 110 ml

Design: Xi Shi round body with inverted ear-shaped handle — in the spirit of Mengchen-style refinement

Lid Fit: Dual-layer lid for a firm, quiet seal and ideal heat retention

Filter: Built-in ball-hole filter; ensures a smooth pour even with dense tea leaves

Interior: Natural uncoated clay with visible hand-tool traces — a mark of true artisan work

Food-Safe: No chemical treatments, glazes, or artificial coloring — 100% safe for everyday tea brewing

Why This Teapot Matters:

This is not mass-produced.
Every curve, every seam, every subtle line is a result of human touch and time-honored technique.

It holds not only water and leaves — but also patience, stillness, and respect for material.

The lid closes with calm precision. The pour is smooth and uninterrupted. The clay rings dense and clear. These are things that can’t be faked.

Cultural Significance:

The Xi Shi teapot reflects grace, restraint, and balance — ideals central to classical Chinese tea philosophy.
Made from premium Yixing Zhuni clay (Zhao Zhuang origin), it becomes more than just a brewing tool. It is a companion that will deepen in tone and texture over years of use — a personal object that holds memory and character.

It doesn’t ask to be noticed. But once held, it’s never forgotten.

About the Artist:

Handcrafted by an independent artist at Wuxiang Studio in Yixing, this teapot is formed using only original ore purple clay and traditional methods. The studio rejects mechanized processes and shortcuts, focusing instead on true ceramic art.

Each teapot is signed and crafted for both collectors and daily tea lovers.
No glazes. No artificial colors. Just honest clay, fire, and the touch of a master’s hand.
